Welcome. My name is Farhana Sobhan and my pronouns are she/her/সে. I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT 132987) and Expressive Arts therapist. My practice is supporting others in becoming more resilient and taking steps towards leading a life with more meaning and intentionality.

Our unique intersections of life have brought us experiences and challenges that made a lasting impact on how we navigate our systems and relationships. Becoming more aware of the patterns that enabled us to survive in the past can aid in providing more insight and clarity into ourselves to inform our future.

Together we will build capacity for unlearning old patterns and developing new capacities that support your growth process and change the narrative from surviving to thriving.

I offer sessions via telehealth and in-person in Occupied Ohlone land (Berkeley, CA). I pay Shuumi Land Tax as a non-indigenous person living and practicing on the Confederated Villages of Lisjan territory to support the critical work of the Sagorea Te’ Land Trust.

I was born and raised in Bangladesh and immigrated to the US as a teenager. My therapeutic work is influenced by my intersectional identities and experiences as an immigrant, Bangladeshi, Bengali, second generation genocide survivor, Muslim, queer, survivor and artist. I have a B.S. in Psychology from the University of Georgia, and M.A. in Counseling Psychology with a specialization in Expressive Arts Therapy from California Institute of Integral Studies.

My approach to therapy is systemic, emotional-decolonial, liberatory, embodied, psychodynamic, and relational. I am gentle yet firm about boundaries. When appropriate and with permission, I incorporate multi-modal somatic and expressive arts tools such as visual art, movement, and play to deepen the therapeutic process. My intuition, empathy, creativity, clinical thinking and ability to hold your unique experience are some of the qualities I bring in my therapeutic work.

Some of the themes I frequently work with are identity exploration, codependency, boundaries with self and others, relationships, generational and cultural differences due to immigration, religious trauma, queer relationships (including queer Muslims), finding meaning, childhood sexual abuse, infertility, and different forms of trauma. If you are curious to learn if we could be a good fit to work together, please reach out for a free consultation.
